CURRENT CATALOG

The Mirage Press, Ltd. was founded in 1961 to publish books by and about science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Over that period we've pubished a wide range of titles, from the original A Guide to Middle-earth and An Atlas of Fantasy. Since 1991 we've specialized in producing the landmark Chalker & Owings The Science-Fantasy Publishers: A Bibliographic History, first in printed form and then in searchable CD ROM format, with both electronic and printed supplements issued annually. We also still have some recently discovered "backlist," or older books, which we offer for sale directly. We regret that we can not accept credit cards, but orders are filled promptly and all shipping is Priority Mail. Add postage and handling of $4.00 for the first item and 50¢ for each additional item, maximum $6.00 for U.S. shipment; outside the U.S., $6.00 for the first item and $1 for each additional (air mail or FedEx additional–write for rates). Older titles subject to sellouts; we will refund if that happens. Send check or money order in U.S. funds to: The Mirage Press, Ltd., P.O. Box 1689, Westminster, Maryland 21158-1689 USA. We wholesale all but the supplements, but you MUST either have a prior history with us or prepay your first order to establish an account. No exceptions.

CURRENT TITLES

THE SCIENCE-FANTASY PUBLISHERS: A Bibliographic History, 1923-2001, by Jack L. Chalker and Mark Owings, on CD ROM.
The very latest edition of this classic that the Washington Post called “both entertaining and essential.” Now on CD ROM and updated regularly, with all supplement information integrated into the work (but we give you the full supplements as well), this printable and searchable work would run more than 1200 8½ x 11" pages. Because it's in Adobe Acrobat® 4 format, it looks exactly like the printed book would look on your screen or in a printout, but it's fully searchable. Want to know what book(s) have “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper” in them? Just hit "Search" and type in the title. VCR-like controls take you in turn to each place the story appeared. Do this with names, with titles, artists, anything! See a cross-reference? It's hypertext linked to the reference so you just click and go! And the many illustrations and jacket art are primarily in full color. And supplements created right here online keep you up to date. All this for 25% less than it cost for the original work back in 1991! $49.95 each.

SUPPLEMENTS TO THE OWINGS & CHALKER SF PUBLISHERS.
Previous supplements are on the CD ROM. If you missed any or have the printed version, you can download the printable pdf files for any you might need right here by clicking on the "Past Supplements" bar and then agreeing to the copyright limitations. If you'd rather not, send us $10.00 for every supplement you wish and we will do it for you in a printed and side-stapled product. We do not discount these as they are printed to order; as such, we do not wholesale the supplements and you can get them only from us directly. We do include postage on supplements we print to order.

BACKLIST–OLDER TITLES STILL AVAILABLE!

Note: Check here occasionally. We often find small quantities of older titles.
THE (EVEN MORE) COMPLEAT FEGHOOT, by Grendel Briarton (Reginald Bretnor).
We have recently unearthed a small quantity of these while on safari in the garage. Sewn trade paperbound only on acid free paper, $20.00. The legendary book of science fiction vignettes each of which ends in a godawful pun. This was our edition, with the Tim Kirk interiors and color Kirk cover. Contains the first 100.

BARSOOM: Edgar Rice Burroughs and the Martian Vision, by Richard A. Lupoff.
A comprehensive yet entertaining and highly readable look at the Martian tales of Edgar Rice Burroughs, illustrated by legendary artist Roy G. Krenkel with a full color jacket by famed astronomical artist Ron Miller. Sewn clothbound, on acid-free paper, $20.00. Note: most of these have some staining to binding, but are otherwise in the same shape as when published almost 25 years ago. We will send the best condition copies we have left on hand.

H.G. WELLS: Critic of Progress, by Jack Williamson.
Jack Williamson is the iron man of science fiction; his first SF story was published in November, 1928 in Amazing Stories; his latest novel will be published in 2000. During this long writing career, Williamson took the time to seek a Ph.D. in English and later used it as a professor at Eastern New Mexico University to essentially create the academic study of science fiction at the university level. This is his Ph.D. thesis, a unique work in which the grand master of science fiction looks back at the founder of modern SF. With a jacket by science fiction author and artist Greg Bear. Sewn clothbound on acid-free paper, $15.00.
Second printing only available.

LOVECRAFTIANA: The Grill–Binkin Collection, by Mark Owings & Irving Binkin.
Back in the early Seventies a legendary antiquarian book dealer in Brooklyn bid blind on a lot of "Lovecraft material." Irving Binkin always claimed he thought he was buying a sex library (!) but once he saw what he had he quickly realized it was something else entirely—the largest collection of work by and about the late horror master H.P. Lovecraft in private hands. Quickly calling in Lovecraft bibliographer Jack L. Chalker, whose work he found in the collection, Chalker brought in Mark Owings, his longtime bibliographic partner then living in New York, and from that point Owings and Binkin cataloged the entire collection, which Mirage Press then published in both a sewn trade paperbound and a sewn jacketless clothbound. The collection was eventually divided into several related pieces and sold, almost all to university collections, so this remains the only record of many of these items. Illustrated with photographs of the collection. Clothbound, $15.00; sewn trade paperbound, none left for now; sold out.
